Finding a business or a place

How to browse and search spaces, and what to do when you can't find a business you know uses xquare.

How do I find a business on xquare?

Open the Spaces page on the hub you are using. It is the directory: it lists that hub's spaces fifteen to a page, with a search box and a row of category pills. You do not need an account to browse. Opening a space shows what that business offers.

Can I search for a type of food, or a neighbourhood?

No. The search box matches the name of the space only. Searching "japanese" or the name of an area finds nothing unless a business has that word in its name. It does not search descriptions, categories or locations. Search for the business's name, or browse with the category pills.

What do the category pills do?

They filter the list to one kind of business: Culinary, Event, Lifestyle, Retail, Health & Beauty, Sports & Fitness, Destinations, Church, Ministry or Other. All shows everything. Each pill shows how many spaces it holds, and a pill only appears when at least one space is in it. A space that has not been given a category counts as Other, so if you cannot find something, try All.

Does the list sort by distance?

Yes, if you let your browser share your location. Spaces nearest to you come first, and spaces with no location set go to the bottom. A card may show the distance and the district.

Why does the list look so short?

The list shows only the spaces on the hub you are using. It is not a filter you applied by accident. If a business you are looking for is missing, it may not have a space on this hub yet; try the search box, or ask the business for a direct link.

Should I trust the star rating on a space card?

Treat it as a rough guide only. The number on a space card is not a score given by xquare customers, and a card can show a placeholder figure while a business's rating is still being set up. Judge a space by what is on its own page, and contact the business if it matters.

I know this business uses xquare but I cannot find it

Check three things. You may be on the wrong hub, because each hub keeps its own list. The search only matches names, so try the exact name or clear the search. And a space can exist without being listed where you are looking. The most reliable fix is to ask the business for their direct link.

What does a space page show me?

The business's own page: its name, its description and whatever it has published. Depending on the business, that can include vouchers, memberships, events, courses or a booking form. Different kinds of business get different page layouts, so two spaces will not look the same. If you cannot find something a business told you about, ask them for a direct link.

What do the messages on an empty list mean?

"No spaces match your search." means your search matched no space name. Try fewer words or the exact business name. "No spaces in this category." means nothing on this hub is in the category you picked, so switch back to All. "No spaces yet on this hub." means the hub has nothing published yet. Nothing is broken.
