Spaces and hubs

Spaces and hubs are the two building blocks of xquare. This page explains each one and how you join, find and leave spaces.

What is a space on xquare?

A space is a business's or community's own page inside an xquare hub. It has a name, a member count, a short description and often a category, and it is where that business publishes what it offers. You can open the Spaces page on the hub you are using and read a space without an account. Signing in lets you join it.

What's the difference between a hub and a space?

A hub is a whole website, such as xquare.net, with its own address and its own list of spaces. A space is one business's or community's page inside a hub. Each hub keeps its own list, so the spaces on one hub are not the same as those on another. The Spaces page, sign-in and joining work the same way on every hub.

How do I join a space?

Open the Spaces page, find the space and press its Join button. If you are not signed in, you are sent to sign in first and brought back to Spaces. On a public space, Join · Public makes you a member straight away and the card then shows Member. On a private space, Join Private sends a request instead, and the button shows Request pending until someone approves it.

Does it cost anything to join a space?

No. Joining a space adds you to its member list and has no payment step. Paid memberships are separate: a space can sell a membership with extra benefits, which then shows under My Memberships.

What is the difference between public and private spaces?

Anyone signed in can join a public space right away. A private space needs approval: either the space accepts your join request, or you are sent an invitation link. A space can also be set to secret, which means it is not listed for browsing.

How do I accept a space invitation?

Open the invitation link you were sent. It looks like /spaces/invite/… . If you are not signed in, press Sign in to continue and you come straight back to the invitation. Then press Accept invitation, and you will see "You're in". Treat the link like a password and do not share it. If the page says the invitation has already been used, has expired or is no longer valid, ask the space for a new one.

I joined a space — where do I see it again?

Go to My Spaces, linked from your account page. If you have not joined any yet, it says "You haven't joined any spaces yet" and offers an Explore Spaces button. Your spaces are tied to your account, so sign in with the same account you joined with.

How do I leave a space?

There is no leave button in the hub right now. If you want to be removed from a space, email [email protected] and say which space and which account.

Can I visit spaces on other hubs?

Yes, but you have to go to that hub. The Hubs page lists the hubs published publicly and links straight to them; from xquare.net that includes the creator hub at grow.xquare.net. A hub can exist without being listed, so if someone gave you its address, open it directly. Nothing you search on one hub reaches another.

Why can't I find the space I'm looking for?

The most likely reason is that it is not listed on the hub you are on, because each hub publishes its own list. Also, search matches space names only, so try the exact name. The simplest fix is to ask the business for their direct link, since a space page opens from its address.
